GEMINI SYNDROME welcomes you to the third and final degree of your initiation into the Synner Society.

3rd Degree – The Raising, is GEMINI SYNDROME’s third full length album. Following the band’s 2013 debut Lux, and 2016 sophomore LP Memento Mori, this new album offers the closing chapter in a trilogy of song and narrative. This order of three steps, and three albums, is not by chance, but is a nod to many of the initiatory traditions that exist and act as a vessel for transmitting and preserving the Sacred Knowledge throughout the ages. The intention is to provoke the listener to think about the mystery of life, the nature of reality, the roles we play, and the masks we wear in this world.

Wherein Lux, meaning “Light,” was concerned with birth; and Memento Mori, meaning “Remember That We Must Die,” dealt with the finite nature of life; the focus and message of 3rd Degree – The Raising, is of traversing Death, being Reborn and reintegrating with our True Self, and thus being raised into the next degree of experience.

Musically, GEMINI SYNDROME’s third full length offering is a sonic amalgam of razor sharp riffs and spatial guitars, hypnotic and atmospheric soundscapes, a rhythm section comprised of dark, brutally distorted bass lines, and a hybrid of analog and electronic drums that bridge chest thumping tribal grooves and foot stomping technical beats. Vocalist Aaron Nordstrom offers his most dynamic and thoughtful performance yet, stating: “Our expressions on this third album are basically a record of the time spent in this particular body, on this particular journey, and the set of lessons that were learned along The Way. It is our hope that by sharing part of our journey, others will be able to recognize things they can identify with, heal old wounds, and learn something new about themselves.”

3rd Degree – The Raising was produced by Matt Good, who’s manned the boards for Asking Alexandria and Hollywood Undead, among others. GEMINI SYNDROME retreated to Good Sounds Studio in Arizona to create the final installment of the trilogy. “Some of the most dynamic and creative stuff was written in the studio,” recalls drummer Brian Steele Medina. “There was a magic energy in the air. We absolutely loved working with Matt and he completely understood where we wanted to take this album creatively and what it was going to take to bring the third chapter of this trilogy to light. Our actual collective blood, sweat and tears went into its creation.”

When asked about the process of initiation, and how it relates to GEMINI SYNDROME’s music, Medina reveals: “There’s something deeper under the surface of our music, and it’s designed to allow the listener to resonate and wake up to their potential. See, when an initiation is done properly, who the person was before, and who they are after the initiation, are two different people. Essentially being Raised to a higher degree of consciousness. So when you listen and actually attend to our music, and understand the intention, the same principle applies. Who the listener was before they hear the album, and who they are after, are different. They become a changed person. They’ve transmuted to a new state of being, and the lyrics that they carry with them after the fact become a mantra, which allows them to sustain that new state of being. Looking back, I recognize that music has always sustained me. It’s been a constant and transformative alchemical force, and it continues to save my life, even today.”

Nordstrom explains how the incorporation of symbols further illuminate an additional layer of insight: “I see the use of symbolism as a way to make people think in ways they are not accustomed to or even aware of. Symbols communicate to our subconscious and collective unconscious minds, and can invoke changes in our thoughts not only in a conscious fashion, but also on a subtler, deeper level. This album is more than a collection of songs, it’s a representation of our final initiation. First, birth by the Waters of the One Current; next, life by the Breath of Our Collective Soul; and finally, resurrection through Baptism by Fire. This trilogy is a testimony and a first hand account of the twists and turns of Chapel Perilous, thus it’s proof that it’s possible to find our way Home — no matter how lost we might find ourselves.”

As everything we’ve learned about GEMINI SYNDROME slowly comes into focus with the conclusion of their trilogy, one might ask, what next? We have journeyed through the maze and hieroglyphic symbology which GEMINI SYNDROME have laid before us, only to come back around full circle. Birth, Life, Death, and being Reborn anew. Medina suggests: “Well, perhaps that’s the point. Together we’ve answered the call to adventure, endured trials and tribulations, transcended the Abyss, and emerged upon the shores on the other side, where we started from, strengthened and purified by the refiner’s fire.”

“Every quest within deserves a good soundtrack...”
